Hi I’m Noushin
General Portfolio

MY STORY
I am a PhD candidate in Human Factors and Applied Cognition, with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Psychology. My work focuses on embodiment and perspective-taking in virtual reality (VR) for human-robot interaction (HRI). My expertise spans experimental design, cognitive engineering, usability research, and statistical analysis, with hands-on experience in VR development, human factors, and robotics. With a background in programming and a degree in system software, I am highly motivated to learn new technologies and quickly adapt to cutting-edge innovations.

EXPERIENCE
What I’ve Done
RESEARCH ASSISTANT
GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY
Supervisor: Dr. Eileen Roesler & Dr. Craig McDonald
-
Gained hands-on experience with the full research cycle, from study conceptualization to dissemination.
-
Utilized Overleaf for collaborative manuscript preparation and OSF for transparent and replicable science.
-
Supervised research assistants in setting up experiments, providing guidance on the research process, and facilitating hands-on involvement in data collection activities.
Supervisor: Dr. Eva Wiese
-
Learned Unity and independently implemented study stimuli for VR experiences (Oculus Quest headset) as part of research on Perspective Taking, Embodied Cognition, and Empathy in HRI.
-
Designed and analyzed experiments for the Emergent Coordination in HRI study using the Nao humanoid robot (Choregraphe) and Python.
-
Conducted the Face Perception and Individuation in HRI study, including IRB approval, Qualtrics survey design, and data analysis (R).
Supervisor: Dr. Carryl Baldwin
-
Assisted in Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) project, funded by Toyota with: Conducting data collection using car simulation, heart rate monitoring, and EEG recording. Implementing stimuli and analyzing data using MATLAB.
